Die Aluminiumwangen wichen den - dem Gehäuse angeglichenen - furnierten und etwas schmaleren neuen Seitenteilen. Die Form der BOSE 901 wurde schlanker: Boden und Deckel stehen nicht mehr so weit über den hinteren Teil der Matrix hinaus. Eine neue Abdeckung mit umlaufender, etwa 4 cm breiter, nach innen gewölbter Kante wurde eingesetzt. Der Abstrahlwinkel der den Wangen benachbarten HVC-Treiber wird dadurch größer. Das ist theoretisch vorteilhaft - der Unterschied kann im Hörtest aber nicht bemerkt werden.

Die Serie VI wurde im Sommer 1987 in Nordamerika vorgestellt und ist bis heute erhältlich. Zur Marketienführung gab es eine Modellvariante in hellem Furnier mit hellbrauner Verkleidung und den dazu passenden hellbraunen Ständern. Im zweiten Jahr wurden diese durch das "Custom"-Modell ersetzt: ab jetzt mit schwarzem Furnierimitat in Eschestruktur aus Kunstoff, oder als "Classic" in hellem Furnier mit dunkelbraunen Verkleidungen erhältlich.
