* Sumo war ein Hersteller von sehr leistungsstarken Endstufen im Hifi- und Profi-Bereich. Der geistige Eigentümer von Sumo, James Bongiorno, gründete diese Firma, nachdem er schon sehr erfolgreich für Wurlitzer, Marantz, Rectilinear Research, Dynaco, GAS und SAE in den U.S.A. gearbeitet hat. Anfang der 80er gründete James Bongiorno gemeinsam mit 2 japanischen Geschäftsmännern die Hifi-Marke Sumo. Aufgrund eines erneuten Ausbruches von Leberkrebs schied er etwa Mitte der 80er aus dem erfolgreichen Sumo aus. Nach einer erfolgreichen Operation hat er den Krebs besiegt und kreierte zumindest noch im Jahre 2000 den Ampzilla 2000. Nach dem Ausscheiden von Bongiorno aus Sumo kam nach kurzer Zeit das Ende der Marke. Es gibt heute keinerlei Service oder Ersatzteile. Die Geräte erfreuen sich jedoch aufgrund ihrer enormen Leistungsreserven und der hervorragenden Klangeigenschaften einer begeisterten Fangemeinde.

In the early 80's James Bongiorno founded the Sumo hifi brand with 2 Japanese businessmen. Due to a new outbreak of liver cancer, he retired from the successful Sumo around the mid 80's. After a successful surgery, he beat the cancer and created the Ampzilla 2000 at least as late as 2000. After Bongiorno's departure from Sumo, the end of the brand came after a short time. There is no service or spare parts available today. However, the devices enjoy an enthusiastic fan base due to their enormous power reserves and excellent sound characteristics.
