Originally named Aurex, Toshiba's history began in 1875. The former company name AUREX was used again by Toshiba in the early 1980s to distinguish the more high-end from the normal device series.

1978, the design and manufacture of the world's first digital synthesizer tuner ST910. 1980, the first true hi-fi mini systems in the world from Toshiba, System 10, 12 and 15, bear the former company name AUREX, a reminiscence of the former tradition of the Toshiba company.
