As with the other RC models (with the exception of the RC-A) the RC-K only achieves its full sound and frequency range in conjunction with the (indispensable) Control Unit, which is connected between the preamplifier and the power amplifier and linearises the frequency response, compensates for errors in the frequency response and boosts the bass range so that the loudspeaker also reaches the specified lower limiting frequency. Without the Control Unit, the RC-K will not achieve the desired bass response, and the rest of the sound spectrum is also far from being achieved without it.

Remarks[edit]

As with the other RC models (with the exception of the RC-A) the RC-K only achieves its full sound and frequency range in conjunction with the (indispensable) Control Unit, which is connected between the preamplifier and the power amplifier and linearises the frequency response, compensates for errors in the frequency response and boosts the bass range so that the loudspeaker also reaches the specified lower limiting frequency. Without the Control Unit, the RC-K will not achieve the desired bass response, and the rest of the sound spectrum is also far from being achieved without it. The Control Unit for the RC-K is the RC 4 (Item No. 5196). The RC-L uses the Control Unit RC-1 (Item No. 4040). The units are not compatible with each other, as each unit is exactly matched to its version. The units are also offered for sale for other loudspeakers on eBay and the like. However, Canton explicitly does NOT recommend this, which is absolutely understandable. As a test I applied my RC-L unit to the small Q Acoustis Concept 20. The sound was indeed deeper, but musty, and the amplifier went out after 1 minute!

Here is an assignment of the adjustable control units to the corresponding Canton models:

  • Fonissimo RC: RC 2 (4050)

Ergo SC-L: SC-L/RC (0227): the adjustable special model of the Ergo SC-L (exceptionally the unit of the RC-L can be used as well)

  • Ergo RC-L: RC 1 (4040)
  • Ergo RC-S: RC 3 (4774)
  • Ergo RC-K: RC 4 (5196)

Successor model:

  • none
