Insgesamt ist der RS-M253X ein recht solider, ordentlich klingender Rekorder. Schwächen findet man am ehesten im Laufwerk, welches aufgrund der einfachen Konstruktion Recordern mit Doppel-Capstan Antrieb klar unterlegen ist. Ein Hingucker ist zweifellos die Aussteuerungsanzeige, welche nicht nur rein optisch gut gelungen ist, sondern auch recht fein auflöst.

Ein Ärgernis hingegen stellt zweifellos das digitale Zählwerk dar, welches zwar bei der Wiedergabe auf Echtzeitanzeige gestellt werden kann, beim Vor- und Rückspulen dann aber sofort in den dreistelligen Countermodus springt - und in diesem auch bleibt, solange man nicht wieder per Tastendruck erneut Echtzeit wählt. Insbesondere bei der Titelsuche sehr nervig!

Weaknesses are most likely to be found in the drive, which is clearly inferior to recorders with double-capstan drives due to its simple construction. An eye-catcher is undoubtedly the level meter, which is not only visually well done, but also quite fine resolution.

A nuisance, however, is undoubtedly the digital counter, which can be set to real-time display during playback, but then immediately jumps to the three-digit counter mode when fast-forwarding or rewinding - and remains in this mode as long as you don't select real-time again by pressing a button. Very annoying, especially when searching for titles!
