Features: Audiophile quality toroidal transformer with ultra-low noise and distortion. Dual Wolfson WM8742 DACs represent a significant performance increase over the 651C's award-winning predecessor and are implemented in a dual differential configuration (each channel has its own DAC to process information). A sophisticated 2-pole Dual Differential Double Virtual Earth Balanced Bessel filter arrangement filters noise and distortion almost entirely out of the DAC signal. This results in a unique level of performance. The new DACs are also equipped with a digital filter with three settings.

This allows you to choose how you want to hear your music: The steep-drop (Steep) filter exhibits strong attenuation of aliasing outside the passband (i.e., above 22.05 kHz) at the expense of some pre- or post-ringing in the time domain. The linear phase filter uniquely exhibits a constant group delay that delays all audio signals equally at all frequencies, meaning that the entire audio signal is present at the output with full temporal coherence. The smallest phase does not have a constant group delay; rather, the coefficients have been optimized without feedback so that the impulse response has no pre-ringing in the time domain.

Cambridge Audio's CD-only S3 Custom CD ServoTM system uses a specially designed chipset and the latest double-sided surface-mount technology, with ultra-short signal paths and no cable connections. Circuitry and software have been meticulously designed, and S3 allows dynamic adjustment of the laser's focus, tracking and output power in real time, giving the best possible read of the digital information and minimising jitter. This is all made possible by a powerful ARM7 processor and complemented by a high precision master clock oscillator and the very precisely designed impedance matched clock buffering process.

All the while, the very proven transport ensures incredible rigidity, and the CD compartment itself has been designed so that its operation feels smooth and refined. An inverted black DFSTN (Double Film Super Twisted Nematic) display gives you feedback on the 651C's features, which now include CD text support. As with all Azur CD players, a high quality toroidal transformer ensures lower noise and less waveform distortion for a quieter power supply.
