Zur Klangqualität möchte ich aber präzisieren: mein PS 500 rumpelt nicht.

In meiner Headshell liess sich das Goldring 1042, dass ich der Qualität von Tonarm und Laufwerk für angemessen halte, normal verschrauben, da es offenbar mehrere Original-Headshell-Versionen gibt. Wenn man sich vor Augen führt, daß man für etwa 450€, incl. eines sehr hochwertigen Tonabnehmersystems, einen ca. 12 Kilo schweren Plattenspieler mit dreifach ausbalanciertem, kugelgelagerten Tonarm, in Öl gelagerten, exakt einstellbaren Dämpfern in einem Ganzmetallgehäuse erhält, welches bereits ab Werk zu 75% hochwertig von innen bedämpft ist, lohnt sich - meiner Meinung nach - für handwerklich Begabte weder die Ausgabe in einen vergleichbar teueres Project-Laufwerk, noch in irgendein anderes Neugerät. Der Innenteller ist - wie bei den allgemein hochgeschätzten teuereren Thorens Modellen aus dickwandigem Aluminium, der Motor stammt von Pabst und ist heute noch erhältlich, der Plattenteller ist feingewuchtet, ausgezeichnet bedämpft und wiegt alleine über 3 Kilo.

Bei meinem Gerät habe ich die verbleibenden Gehäuseinneflächen mit selbstklebenden Dämmmatten aus dem Kfz.-Bereich bedämpft und den Innenteller (nur!) im Bereich der sichtbaren Achslagerverstärkungen mit Plastik-Fermit (= dauerelastische Masse aus dem Baumarkt), den Rest des Innentellers mit dickem und leichtem Filz bedämpft, er ist nun nicht zu schwer und akustisch tot.

Macht mann sich dann die Mühe, Tonarm, Tonabnehmersystem und Dämpfer sorgfältig einzustellen, wird man mit einem - auch heute noch - überragenden Klang im gesamten Frequenzbereich belohnt.

Tips for buying used[edit]

1. transport lock 

Removing the transport lock: 

For transport protection there are 3 red marked screws under the turntable.
These are to be removed and are to be inserted for storage into the 3 holes of the 
foam rubber insert to the right of the drive plate.


Attaching the transport lock: 

For the transport lock the 3 red marked screws under the turntable have to be
into the free holes around the drive plate.

2. 220 V unit on 230/240 V mains: 

Device can only be operated with 220 V (50 Hz).
In Europe, currently a mains voltage of 230/240 V (50 Hz).
This can lead to problems during operation and to a reduction of the service life.
Due to the increased mains voltage of 5% (230 V) or 9% (240 V), an increased heating of the
increased heating of the drive motor. 

Since the speed of the turntable is frequency-dependent (50 Hz), there are no problems here.

Ebay (2008) 30.- to 160.- € (condition difficult to define)
Is offered very often and is in my opinion for a collector a very worthwhile 
and optically beautiful device. 

A repair is almost always more expensive than a complete unit:
* drive belt 10.- € to 20.- € (+postage).
* Repairing the plexiglass hood. (glue, abrasive...): ca. 30 € and a lot of time  
* needle: about 20.- € to 25. - €
* scanning system: ca. 50.- €
* headshell: 20.- €
* Oils, greases for bearings and dampers ...
I.e.: A device without headshell and scanning system, which is often offered on Ebay by dealers, 
is then very quickly around 100, - € more expensive than expected.
