* The SS-E71 is a typical mid-range speaker of that time: 3-way, closed, compact, large bass driver, minimalist crossover with, according to driver data sheets, wide

wide operating ranges, good roll-offs and very similar sound pressure levels.

Due to the too small net volume of the woofer cabinet the Qtc is > 1 and consequently this results in suboptimal impulse behaviour in the low frequency range with rich frequency response exaggeration in the upper bass. Nevertheless, not all contouring is lost in the low frequency range, which speaks for the quality of the woofer. The midrange is quite clear and present.

* The high frequency range at times sharp and harsh and not particularly detailed.

* Overall, despite its weaknesses, the SS-E71 is more broadband and "open" sounding at room volume than some modern speakers with their over-damped metal cones. However, due to the much too small woofer cabinet and the 6dB filters the SS-E71 is not particularly level stable and low in distortion (IM) and the tweeter doesn't seem to be equivalent in quality to the cone drivers used.

A speaker designed for room volume with built-in loudness. However, acceptable. More than 100€ per pair used I would not want to put down, however. "Vintage" is not an argument for it.
