Die Modelle A-77X und A-88X waren die damaligen Elite-Verstärker der Pioneer-Serie, wobei der A-88X die Serie sowohl ausstattungstechnisch als auch leistungsmäßig angeführt hat. Die Geräte sind wohl aus den Vorgängern A-60 bis A-80 entstanden, die recht ähnliche Daten aufweisen.
Alle Modelle (ab dem A-66X) verfügen "natürlich" über Metallfronten und Regler aus Metall. Der Lautstärkeregler des A-88X und A-77X ist komplett aus Metall und wird mit einer Madenschraube an der Potiachse befestigt. (Bei späteren A-77X ist der Knopf allerdings nur auf die Riffelachse des Potis gesteckt.)

Reparaturhinweis:
Wenn die roten Leuchtdioden nicht mehr und die grünen nur noch schwach leuchten, dann ist wahrscheinlich die Power-Glühlampe in dem grünen Gummi über dem Hauptschalter durchgebrannt (12V , 0,1A). Sie liegt als "Vorwiderstand" vor dem Längstregler, der die übrigen Anzeigen mit Spannung versorgt.
