Monarch was a hi-fi brand of Inter-Mercador, a Bremen-based supplier of electronic products, renamed Monacor International in 2000. The parent company Inter-Mercador was responsible for the design and marketing of Monarch equipment in cooperation with Japanese hifi manufacturers. Hifi equipment such as tuners, amplifiers and receivers were manufactured in Japan under the Monarch and partly Monacor brand.

MONACOR INTERNATIONAL celebrated the 50th anniversary of the company in 2015. It all started in 1965: Company founder Günter Schilling imported products from the Far East and quickly realized the potential of electronic components and products for the European market. The product range grew rapidly. In 1969, the portfolio was expanded to include security technology (including the INTERMERC TM-70 telephone amplifier). At the beginning of the 1970s, another important step was taken with the development of one of the world's most comprehensive ranges of sound reinforcement and loudspeaker technology. The range was soon reflected in a 100-page catalogue filled with audio mixing consoles, loudspeakers, amplifiers, surveillance cameras and matching accessories. In the 80's the catalogue grew considerably, product groups such as alarm technology, CB radio equipment, hi-fi systems, but also measurement technology and music electronics were represented. The product name MONARCH also appeared here for the first time. The development of the company ran parallel. While in 1965 the residence of founder Güner Schilling was the first company headquarters, where he did intensive development work with just two employees, in 1972 he moved into a new office and warehouse building in the Bremen district of Vahr. Even this soon became too small and so INTER MERCADOR GmbH moved to its present premises in Bremen-Mahndorf. But the zenith was far from being reached and so in 2001 INTER-MERCADOR GmbH became MONACOR INTERNATIOANL GmbH & Co. KG.

However, the company did not limit itself to the domestic market, European growth was the order of the day. Today, the company is represented in more than 40 countries by subsidiaries, participations or trading partners. Around 160 employees work at the company's home base, and there are more than 500 worldwide!
